Reflecting
For my internship, I interned with Rob Jankowski of Jankowski's Imagery. I was working as a social media intern, setting up a new website and connecting social media accounts to each other. I was very interested in starting this internship because I really enjoy photography and would like to have my own photography website someday. As much as I enjoyed setting up the website, it was hard work and I did have to persevere through some difficulties with technology. Some of the most important skills I either learned, or had to improve were, time-management, patience, perseverance, and communication.
Most of what I was doing was formatting the website. Uploading photos, text, and other information was my main job but I was also connecting and setting up social media accounts. I really enjoy doing the formatting because I have a thing for organization and symmetry so it was something I was able to excel in. At first, I was just figuring out which website hosting platform to use and how to switch the domain name over to the new website.
This internship was definitely a learning experience. I learned so much about interacting with a "boss" and how to write professional emails and correspondence. I was really excited to learn specific skills regarding photo editing and formatting, which is pretty much the main thing that I was doing. I think that if I were going to do this again, I would have started earlier so I had more time to focus on certain elements of the website. I think learning how to manage my time and do things that I didn't really want to do on the weekends will really help me later on in life when I have a job that I don't necessarily love.
My main obstacle that I had to patiently overcome was the fact that my computer was not as fast as I would have liked it to be. This became an issue mostly when I was trying to upload photos or switch between so many different of applications on my computer. It became really frustrating when the little loading cursor would show up and I would just have to wait for my computer to stop freaking out before I could continue. I even had my computer crash once because I had too many things open and I was trying to switch back and forth too quickly.
Initially, I thought this internship would be easy and fun and, for the most part, it was. I think the only thing I wasn't expecting was how much time I would waste just messing around with different themes and settings when starting to set up the website. I knew my computer would crash at least once so when it did, I wasn't really surprised. Overall, I think this was a great learning experience and although I wouldn't really want to do another unpaid or be able to, I did enjoy the work I was doing and how the website turned out.

Daily Logs
2 Hours--Saturday, April 16th
Today was the first day of my internship. I am helping to re-design a website for a photographer. I'm very excited to work on this because it combines two things that I love: photography, and being on my computer. I didn't do very much today, but that's because I wasn't fully set up yet. I have just been working on figuring out which website hosting platform to use because the photographer I am interning for wants to switch from what he is currently using to something that will work better for him.
2 Hours--Sunday, April 17th
After figuring out that we're going to switch to using Weebly, I had to figure out how to switch the domain name from his original website to the new website. It took me a while to figure it out, but eventually I got the hang of it. I am now working on setting up the different pages and blog settings so that it is easy to navigate the new website.
3 Hours--Saturday, April 23rd
Today was quite a bit more difficult than the last time because I had to format photographs and figure out how to transfer the photographs from one account to another. I kept getting error messages and having to re-size photos to make sure they fit in the right space.
2 Hours--Sunday, April 24th
After getting the photos to work out yesterday, it made my job today much easier. I didn't have as much to do today so I mostly just made sure all of the links went to the right place and re-arranged certain elements of the website.
1.5 Hours--Saturday, April 30th
To be honest, this internship is sort of repetitive and difficult to write interesting journals about because its mostly just me sending emails back and forth and then changing little parts of the website until they're perfect. Not that its not interesting to me, because I do enjoy what I'm doing and the things I'm learning how to do, but it's difficult to come up with new ways to say the same thing.
2 Hours--Sunday, May 1st
Guess what! I uploaded some photos and text to the website today. What a surprise! Its fun for me, although I keep getting stuck on the issue of file size and the size of photos...Other than that, there's not much new going on, just the continuous uploading of photos and formatting text.
3 Hours--Saturday, May 7th
I've realized that doing this internship has actually taught me many things. Most importantly, it has taught me patience. Technology, although fantastic and helpful, is often difficult to work with and you must have extreme patience. I mean, working on a brand new computer with up-to-date software might help too, but being able to handle waiting for the beach ball of death to return to where it belongs is an extremely important skill to have.
2 Hours--Sunday, May 8th
Today was such a struggle!!! I accidentally deleted an entire page and had to redo the entire thing from scratch (the page, not the entire website). It wasn't one of the pages with a ton of photos, thank god, but it was a page with a lot of text that had to be formatted, which took a while. Thankfully, I'm getting much faster at the formatting and how its supposed to look.
2 Hours--Saturday, May 14th
Tomorrow is my last day (hopefully). I'm very close to being done with the task that I've been assigned and I'm very proud of the work that I've done so far. I didn't do too much today, but I talked with my supervisor some more and he was very happy with the work that I've done.
3 Hours--Sunday, May 15th
Done! I finally finished and connected all of the other social media sites to the website. I've had so much fun, and a few difficult days, working on this and I'm also a little stressed out because I need to get my internship packet completed and turned in before Thursday so I can go on the senior trip.
